my cat keeps scratching a Persian rug and refuses to use a cat scratcher, what else can I give her to scratch?

My cat doesn’t understand what can she do with a scratcher–a cardboard thingy we got at a pet store, she pushes it away and goes directly to the rug. What should I give her to keep her off the rug? I tried putting a wooden board for her, but she didn’t scratch that either.

A good way to prevent your cat from attacking you rug, is by putting some square pieces of carpet along the sides of some door frames in your home.
It gives the cat more of a variety, rather than always having to scratch the same scratching post.
You can also give them some toys, such as fluffy fake mice. this will keep them distracted, and hopefully draw them away from the rug.
If none of this works, then try feeding your cat close to the scratching post. When he has finished eating, he will want to relax, and to start relaxing, he needs a good stretch, which is when the scratching post comes in handy to him. Cat’s don’t use their scratching posts as something just to scratch.. they use the to stretch the muscles in their legs and paws. your cat may take his naps in the room that the rug is located.. ? If he does, then it’s best if you find another place for him to sleep, that way he doesn’t have to stretch himself using the rug.
If this still doesn’t work, then cat nip may just do the job.
I don’t believe that cat nip is the best idea, as it can cause your cat to be a lot more energetic, but if it helps keep him away from the rug, then it may just be worth it.
